The first two permanent settlers in what would later become the Village of Lisle were brothers James and Luther Hatch. They arrived in 1832, after the Blackhawk War, to begin farming their claims bordering present-day Ogden Avenue. The early settlers were attracted by the prime timber, high-grade agricultural land, and optimum water resources available in the area. Today, you may find the burial sites of many of the area’s earliest settlers by visiting the Lisle Cemetery. Downtown Lisle features a variety of businesses including retail shops, service-oriented stores and professional offices. Several new multi-family residential developments and government institutions including Village Hall — are also located in Downtown Lisle. Add the Commuter Train Station and Lisle Station Park museum complex into the mix, and the downtown’s future is unlimited. An ambitious streetscape, facade, and building improvement program is currently underway in Downtown Lisle. Revitalization of the area has already begun with the construction of a new Village Hall.
